The LA’s toxic potential is related to its potency. Remember Mepivacaine and Lidocaine specifically, as related to Procaine. Mepivacaine is 2 times as potent as Procaine, and 2 times as toxic. Lidocaine is 4 times as potent as Procaine, and 2 times as toxic.
The maximum adult dose (MRD) is:
400mg Mepivacaine (without vasoconstrictor)
300mg Lidocaine (without vasoconstrictor)
