Action: anticholinergic (quaternary compound); bronchodilator
Indication: maintenance therapy of asthma, COPD and chronic bronchitis; tx of rhinitis and relief of rhinorrhea assoc. c common cold
Contraindicated: hypersensitivity to atropine and derivatives
Precautions: BPH, narrow-angle glaucoma, bladder neck obstruction (obstructive uropathy)
Route of Administration: pulmonary inhalation
Side effects: xerostomia, metallic-taste, palpitations, cough, hoarseness, drying of bronchial secretions, mucosal ulcers, nasal dryness
Dental aspects: advise pt to rinse mouth with water after each inhalation to minimize xerostomia and other oral complications; drug is not used for treating acute asthmatic attack.
