  • Thrombotic infarcts

    • Usually from atherosclerosis but can be due to vasculitis

    • Usually non-hemorrhagic (pale)

  • Embolic infarcts

    • Usually from mural thrombi from heart or carotid atherosclerotic plaques

    • The MCA is most often involved and they are usually hemorrhagic

  • Venous infarcts

    • From thrombosis of the superior sagittal sinus

    • Very rare and very hemorrhagic
