Thrombotic infarcts
Usually from atherosclerosis but can be due to vasculitis
Usually non-hemorrhagic (pale)
Embolic infarcts
Usually from mural thrombi from heart or carotid atherosclerotic plaques
The MCA is most often involved and they are usually hemorrhagic
Venous infarcts
From thrombosis of the superior sagittal sinus
Very rare and very hemorrhagic
