Fluid removal
if you have tamponade, it’s an emergency
pericardiocentesis—needle at bedside
surgeons can drain it
percutaneous balloon, too
stick a needle into the pericardial sac
if you have no echo, hook needle to an EKG lead. this is for protection against poking the myocardium—if you hit the heart, you can see it on the EKG
you can make things worse if you do pericardiocentesis badly
localize needle tip with color Doppler during pericardiocentesis
usually, leave a catheter in there and let it drain for a day or two no slide
