Antipsychotic drugs
Synonyms: neuroleptic drugs, antischizophrenic drugs, major tranquillisers
Definition: drugs those are effective in relieving the symptoms of schizophrenic illness
Examples: clozapine, chlorpromazine, haloperidol
Antidepressant drugs
Synonym: thymoleptics
Definition: drugs that alleviate the symptoms of depressive illness
Examples: monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants
ANALGESIC DRUGS
Definition: drugs used clinically for controlling pain
Examples: opiates, carbamazepine
PSYCHOMOTOR STIMULANTS
Synonym: psychostimulants
Definition: drugs that cause wakefulness and euphoria
Examples: amphetamine, cocaine and caffeine
Psychotomimetic Drugs
Synonyms: hallucinogens, psychodysleptics
Definition: drugs that cause disturbance of perception (particularly visual hallucinations) and of behavior in ways that cannot be simply characterised as sedative or stimulant effects
Examples: lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), mescaline and phencyclidine
Cognition enhancers
Perhaps this is more of a wishful than a real category
Synonyms: Nootropic drugs
Definition: drugs that improve memory and cognitive performance
Examples: tacrine, donepezil, piracetam
