Description and SymptomsScaly thin plaques mostly on the trunk and proximal extremities. The lesions can be darker or lighter than the surrounding skin, hence “versicolor”. Often asymptomatic.
Diagnosis Clinical. Skin scraping with KOH will demonstrate “
spaghetti & meatball” appearance of short hyphae and spores.
Pathology Caused by Malessezia Furfur (P. Ovale)
Principles of Therapy Topical or PO antifungals.
Ketoconazole (PO or cream) and
Selenium shampoo.
