blockers (ie. propranolol)

Heart rate is reduced (at rest and exercise), BP is reduced. Side effects include fatigue, lethargy, sleep disturbances, impotence, hyptension, heart failure, bradycardia, arrhythmias, etc.

blockers interfere with adenylyl cyclase activation via sympathetic impulses. cAMP inactivates the kinases so that the contractility is increased through the phosphorylation of myosin light chains

If a pt has asthma, you must give a specific beta-1 blocker because if the pt has an attack and he is taking a beta-2, he wont be able to release epinephrine.

Also, aspirin is taken many times. Aspirin inhibits cyclo-oxygenase and interferes with transformation of polyunsaturated fatty acids to thromboxane and prostaglandin. Aspirin can interfere with clot formation.
