-Low levels of HDL (< 35 mg/dL): HDL are the ‘good lipids’, which have more proteins and are instrumental in taking the lipids to the liver for processing and elimination.
-HTN: hypertension stresses the arterioles, which can cause tearing
-Diabetes mellitus: strong predisposing factor
-Obesity:
-Family history of CHD (before 55 y.o.): some people have a genetic risk
-Male sex: we don’t know if its genetics, or male behavior
-Age:
-Cigarette smoking:
-Hypercholesteroemia: high lipids, can be changed either by changing diet or by new drugs that can decrease intestinal absorption or inhibit membrane pathways for synthesis of cholesterol
-Sedentary lifestyle:
-Type A personality:
