Synthetic catecholamine vasoconstrictor
Alpha-1 receptor activity: 75%
Beta-1,2 receptor activity: 25%
--1/6 as potent as epinephrine in terms of desired vasoconstriction—
usual solution strength- 1:20,000
“Cardiac effects same as epi, but to a lesser degree”
Levonordefrin is metabolized by COMT and MAO, and is a safe alternative vasoconstrictor in a cardiac patient who is contraindicated to epi—however it is rarely used.
