ABSOLUTE: cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock, 2nd – 3rd degree A/V heart block, sinus bradycardia (heart rate less than 45 bpm), systolic hypotension (less than 100 mmHg)

RELATIVE: asthma, emphysema, non-allergic bronchitis, congestive heart failure (differs for selected agents), diabetes mellitus, hepatic function impairment (agents metabolized by liver), mental depression (lipophilic agents), renal function impairment (for renal excreted agents), Raynaud’s syndrome (less of a problem with beta-1 selective agents)
