After first 12 hours see red dead neurons
Up to 48 hours see neutrophils
Within days the neutrophils are replaced by macrophages stuffed with neuronal debris and may have hemosiderin in them if the infarct was hemorrhagic
1 – 2 weeks see gliosis (not fibrosis)
May resolve as a cystic cavity
