  • Bacterial meningitis : pneumococci, meningococci, Haemophilus influenza, plague. This also includes partially treated bacterial meningitis (cultures remain negative).

  • Cerebral abscess (occasionally as a consequence of endocarditis, sinusitis, otitis media or mastoiditis)

  • Rabies (very variable cerebrospinal fluid)
