example 1: overdrive suppression of sinus node by atrial fibrillation
in these patients, when atrial fibrillation stops, sinus node recovery can be prolonged
slow recovery of the sinus node is indicative of sick sinus syndrome, which can require a permanent pacemaker
example 2: atrial fibrillation in Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW)
in WPW, you have a fast accessory conduction tract to allow AP to move from atria to ventricles very quickly
this leads to a wide-complex tachycardia that is irregular with intermittent pauses
rx: procainamide to slow conduction through accessory pathway
