factor XII gets activated when plasma hits collagen after vascular permeability increases
(recall that factor VII pathway gets activated when FVII leaks out of damaged cells; we are not concerned about that part of the coagulation cascade)
C1 INH normally blocks at all the sites shown in red rectangles on the slide
if these steps are not blocked, C2a will be cleaved to generate C2 kinin, a vasoactive peptide
this does not necessarily require antibody fixation
how low does your C1 INH have to get to have this disease? well, about 1/3 of the normal level. 50% of normal is just fine
