  • neutralize toxins (this is the basis for tetanus toxoid vaccine, diphtheria toxin vaccine)

  • neutralize bugs (Pneumococcus vaccines make us develop antibodies against the bug itself)

  • opsonization of bacteria

  • help complement poke a hole in bacteria


Flow cytometry

  • CD3 is a pan-T-cell antibody

  • CD19 is a pan-B-cell antibody

  • cells in the bottom left corner are neither T cells nor B cells

  • note that the FACS of an XLA patient has no B cells
