O157:H7 has a critical pathogenicity island encoding a mechanism for tight binding to the intestinal epithelium
a plasmid encodes a protease that degrades coagulation factor V, promoting hemorrhagic colitis
a lysogenic phage encodes for Shiga-like toxin that causes endothelial damage, promoting kidney failure and hemolytic-uremic syndrome
so a combination of conjugation and transduction was present in the evolution of O157:H7
