    • postpartum (I think he said “postmortem”)

    • sporadic

  • postpartum

    • may occur in 15% of postpartum women in US

    • develops a few months after delivery

    • in about 1/3 of patients, hyperthyroidism begins 1-6 months after delivery; this is followed by hypothyroid phase 4-8 months after delivery

    • majority recover normal thyroid function

  • sporadic

    • indistinguishable from postpartum subtype

    • clinical course is similar

    • functional abnormality usually resolves automatically
