  • if you view this under polarized light, you get a lot of nonpolarizing material, which reflects Paget’s disease

Bone is susceptible to fracture in Paget’s sarcoma

  • neoplastic change is very hard to clear

  • neurologic—sensory and motor problems—stem from vertebral involvement

  • in some stages, there is high-output cardiac failure, although this is very unusual

Main things to remember

  • it’s nothing much of the time

  • picture-frame vertebra

  • if it’s more progressive, deafness, blindness, thickness of skull, secondary osteoarthritis
