Epiphyseal plate cartilage dies, calcifies converted to bone
Epiphysis and diaphysis welded together
Remodeling conversion of immature to mature Haversian Systems
Inner and outer cortex smoothed: inner and outer circumferential lamellae.
In flat bones, sutures close and the plates are welded together.
Bone quality is maintained by continuous remodeling and replacement of Haversian Systems.
Adjustment to physical stress - bone is formed on the side where traction is applied, and resorbed where pressure is exerted.
