• More often in 3rd trimester pregnancy

• Prolonged sitting can cause more

• Valsalva manuever

• This is a dialation of veins due to increased systemic or portal pressure

  • The veins have no valves

• Decreases with age

• Caucasion

• Higher income and education levels

• More often sitting

• Puritis - burning and itching (EDUCATE THEM)

  • Anesthetics will help for some time, but does not heal the problem

  • Sitz bath - hypertonic solution - this may pull out some fluid

    • The warmer the water the more blood that comes to the party

  • Donut - NOT GOOD

  • Try foam pillow

  • Standing up

  • Avoid tight fitting clothing

• Hemorrhoidectomy - remove and cauterize

  • Anal plasty may occur later on
