Human herpes virus 6 is characterised by sudden onset of fever, appearance of maculopapular rash on trunk spreading to periphery, incubation period is 10 days. Diagnosis is by serological means, and treatment is supportive only. Human herpes virus 7 is possibly just a variant of HHV6, and HHV 8 is found in > 90% of patients with Kaposi sarcoma.
