Acute pyelonephritis

on 1.1.08 with 0 comments

Clinical Presentation:

Acute flank pain with fever and dysuria.

Acute pyelonephritis can be demonstrated on sonography as renal enlargement, compression of the renal sinus, abnormal echostructure, loss of corticomedullary differentiation, or as a poorly marginated mass. Color Doppler or Energy Doppler scan show zones of hypovascularity corresponding to regions of reactive ischemia to tubulointerstitial inflammation of the kidneys. Sonography overall is not as sensitive as CT in determining the presence and extent of abcess and perinephric inflammation
