Problems Associated with Steroid Inhalers

Oropharyngeal candidiasis (4-13%; positive cultures in 75%)… if you rinse mouth after inhaling the steroid, you can get most it out of your mouth and prevent the candidiasis.

Dysphonia (5-50% of people experience a change in voice quality). Reflex cough and bronchospasm; adrenal cortical suppression (dose-dependent); dysgeusia, ageusia; dry mouth and throat; agitation, depression, mental disturbances; anaphylactoid reactions. Patients are advised to rinse out mouth after dosing!!
