common
may or may not be symptomatic
often associated with coarctation of the aorta
the more severe the narrowing, the earlier the presentation
higher risk of stenosis, endocarditis, dissecting aneurysms in adulthood
aortic valve is bicuspid in 50% of aortic valve coarctations
gross specimen: bicuspid aortic valve and LV hypertrophy
there are two cusps instead of three
the valve is also very narrowed
downstream, post-stenotic dilatation
upstream, LV hypertrophy
endocardial fibroelastosis is seen in left ventricle
