  • irinotecan and topotecan

    • mechanism: topo I inhibitor

    • irinotecan is the one that is most widely-used in GI cancers

    • toxicity: cholera-like diarrhea

  • anthracyclines: doxorubicin, doxil, mitoxanthrone

    • mechanism: topo II inhibitor

    • toxicity: cardiac. assess every couple of months

    • mainstay of many curable diseases

  • etoposide

    • mechanism: topo II inhibitor

    • toxicities: liver damage, secondary leukemias (1 in 10,000 or so)
