definition: defective mineralization of osteoid in mature cortical and cancellous bone
usually due to vitamin D disturbances—malabsorption, renal problems, more rare examples not to be discussed
you often have metatarsal fractures, termed Looser’s zones
bone biopsy: pink color is characteristic of osteomalacia because bone has not mineralized
