a lot of the invasion, metastasis, and vessel growth associated with malignancy is really just a perversion of this entire process; Darwinian selection for cancer cells leads to cancer cells hijacking these same signaling pathways to carry out invasion and metastasis
you can stop certain cancer cells from invading by taking away these signals
