- vitamin C for crosslinking of collagen 
- adequate blood supply, a problem for diabetics who have peripheral vascular problems that are worse distally—this is why diabetics have amputated toes, feet, legs 
- lack of infection 
- profound anemia (Hct = 25 is probably okay) inhibits healing 
- severe protein deficiency inhibits healing 
- lack of amino acids with sulfur inhibits healing 
- extreme old age (90, 95 years, say) inhibits healing 
- chronic autoimmune disease inhibits healing 
- diabetes mellitus inhibits healing 
- zinc, glucocorticoids, ACTH, T3, T4 estrogens, growth hormone are necessary
