Polyp - Polyposis syndromes

  • Benign lesion above the surface and surrounded by mucous membranes

  • They start their life benign

  • Familial polyposis - colonic polyps…concentrated presence in the colon

    • High malignant potential

  • Gardeners syndrome - colonic polyps…it is assumed that they will go malignant

    • Frontal sinus for tumor (benign osteomas)

    • Skin lesions

  • Peutz-jegher syndrome - there are two things that get tested

    • Low malignant potential

    • Pigmentation around the mouth usually (perioral)

  • Juvenile polyposis - classic colorectal disease

    • Low malignant potential

  • Chronkite-canada syndrome

    • NO malignant potential

    • Skin pigmentation - but not as specifically located as puetz-jegher (perioral)

      • WIDELY DISSEMINATED OR DISTRIBUTED
