You are here: Home » Cardiology Notes » What determines the size of the infarct?
How much O2 / Hb / cardiac output is reduced?
The artery (its size) involved?
The workload on the heart? (i.e.: MI superimposed by heart failure = greater size of infarct)
Development of collateral vessels or not? (i.e.: whether its rapid onset ischaemia or slow-onset ischaemia)
How many arteries are involved? (i.e.: ‘triple vessel disease’ – poor prognosis)
