Mechanism Of Action:
  • Interferes with the template function of the DNA
  • Also has anti-inflammatory action
    • Hence useful in Type 2 - Lepra reaction

Pharmacokinetics:
  • Food increases its absorption
  • It is excreted unchanged in the urine

Adverse Effects:

  • Reddish-black discoloration of the skin,hair and body secretions
  • Dryness of the skin and itching
  • Phototoxicity

Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy
  • Liver and kidney impairment
