- Bactericidal
Mechanism Of Action:
- Interferes with the template function of the DNA
- Also has anti-inflammatory action
- Hence useful in Type 2 - Lepra reaction
Pharmacokinetics:
- Food increases its absorption
- It is excreted unchanged in the urine
Adverse Effects:
- Reddish-black discoloration of the skin,hair and body secretions
- Dryness of the skin and itching
- Phototoxicity
Contraindications:
- Pregnancy
- Liver and kidney impairment
