Over-expressed bcl-2 protects lymphocytes from undergoing apoptosis
results in reduced cell death—slow growing
bax
opposes bcl-2 action and accelerates cell death
relative levels of bax/bcl-2 regulate cell survival
p53
triggers apoptosis if cells are exposed to mutagens and cannot repair DNA
increases transcription of bax
