When you hear about drug induced xerostomia, you think of anti cholinergic muscarinic antagonists. But as it turns out (looking at the list) lots of drugs and drug classes can cause dry mouth… so don’t always blame xerostomia on muscarinic blockade. Up on the top of the list is the drug Scopolamine, which is taken to prevent motion sickness (a patch placed behind the ear and releases its effects for 3 days)… it works, but is an atropine derivative so results in severe xerostomia.
