Antibiotics and metronidazole in periodontal infections

on 9.7.05 with 0 comments

-Ciprofloxacin 500 mg/bid + metronidazole, 500 mg/bid for 8 d

-Amoxicillin 250 mg/bid + metronidazole 250 mg/bid for 8 d

-Metronidazole can be used with penicillin, cefixime, moxalactam, erythromycin, tetracycline or tobramycin with additive or synergistic in vitro effects. The old adage used to be that cipro was for infections below the belt, while macrolides were used for infections above the belt; this was a terrible protocol and is not used anymore.
